AGS Handles Distribution for a Large Consumer Electronics Chain
AGS performs various services for this customer including transportation and delivery of products that arrive from air and ocean ports and go to 900+ stores in the United States. AGS also handles the distribution of store fixtures and promotional signs from vendors to the stores.
The Problem:
In January, 2007, the customer told us that the 150,000+ PC's equipped with the new Microsoft Vista operating system they had just bought overseas were experiencing manufacturing delays due to unexpected programming problems. Since the PC’s had a time definite release date and in-store promotions were planned for the next three months, they asked if AGS could handle the product distribution from our LAX facility which is where the products were entering the U.S.
The Solution:
AGS developed a unique routing plan that included air, ground and exclusive vehicle movements to AGS hub cities to meet specific delivery requirements of the initial release date as well as weekly promotion dates. Over the next three months, AGS handled the entire distribution of nearly five million pounds, over 27,000 shipments, with over 30 deliveries to each of the 900+ stores. Weekly arrivals required trailer unloading, labeling and routing in either the AGS air or ground network depending on promotion dates, store locations and availability of product from the air carrier or broker.
Background:
In 2003, the customer had selected AGS to be its primary import distribution carrier because of the flexibility of AGS's air and ground network, real time shipment in transit tracking, imaged proof of delivery, and a high level of operational control from a dedicated AGS call center that had been set up at the AGS station near the customer’s headquarters.
The Result:
The Vista project was successfully completed in March 2007, with AGS exceeding the customer's delivery expectations.
